The Von Trapp Family were Real? YES!!

Did you know that the Von Trapp family in one of my favorite Christmas films and favorite films of all time were real people? For years I thought it was just a dramatization of the events of the time (pre-ww2), but it turns out that the Von Trapp Family in the movie, The Sound of Music were based on a real Von Trapp family.

Although the movie was highly entertaining and showcased the actors musical talents, it was not based strictly to the real life Von Trapp family. Maria was actually somewhat imbalanced and would erupt into fits of rage. They would would pass shortly and she would return to her kind normalcy. All of the Von Trapp Family children had different names, sexes and ages.

The Von Trapp Family didn't escape over the swiss alps on foot either. They left by train and told everyone they were coming to America to sing. Here is a picture of Maria when they entered the U.S. The Von Trapp family will live in my mind as the feature film depicts, but it's interesting to know that there were a real Von Trapp Family (even if their dad didn't star in a Star Trek movie).
